
79 NYSC Corps Members Certified as Advocates in Benue State
Statistically, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 10 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18. Nigeria has been greatly affected by this menace of child sexual abuse. To curb this menace, it takes the collective effort of the society to tackle this issue.
With funding from the French Embassy under the PISSCA Project, with collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), SOAR Initiative trained over 150 corps members to be advocate against child sexual abuse in both Benue State and Abuja.
On the 21st september, 2018, 79 trained and active advocates of Soar Initiative received there certificate of participation in the one year of the youth advocate project during the one day stakeholders meeting.
Also to mark the close out ceremony of the Project and the meeting was aimed at reviewing achievement of the youth advocate against child sexual abuse.
The ceremony had in attendance 70 trained Advocates, 5 other corps members (beneficiaries), the NYSC State coordinator of Benue state, Mrs. E.H Awakessien, Benue State NACTAL coordinator, Mr. Nathaniel Msen Awuapila,10 members from the NACTAL Benue Chapter, 3 representatives from Media house, the 14 local government NYSC coordinators and 32 school students.
The ceremony featured spoken words, drama presentation by the advocates, awards and certificate presentation.
The meeting was held at BIPC guest house, S2/1 Orban Jando street, Hudco qtrs, Northbank, Makurdi. Benue State.
